How Dentists Treat TMJ

All conditions of TMJ are treatable, if not are curable. Methods of treatment range from physical therapy to surgery that replaces cartilage in the jaw. Dentists may have their patients use a splint inside their mouth for as long as six months to reform the jaw back into a correct position. By aligning the jaw, less pressure is applied to the joints and cartilage. As the number of patients diagnosed with TMJ grows, so do the number of dentists that expand their knowledge of TMJ and specialize in the treatment of it. Price ranges will vary drastically from under a thousand into the tens of thousands depending on the severity and type of treatment needed.
